Celebrating the Impact of Reader Precisions Summer 2024 Interns
As the summer draws to a close, Reader Precision Solutions reflects on the invaluable contributions and remarkable talents our three Summer 2024 Interns brought to our organization. These exceptional summer interns injected fresh perspectives and boundless enthusiasm into our workspace, leaving an indelible mark on various aspects of our operations. Join us in celebrating their achievements, lessons learned, and promising futures.
Zach P. | Engineering Intern
A junior at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), Zach returned for his second consecutive summer internship at RPS, continuing to pursue his degree in Mechanical Engineering. This summer, he took on the challenge of developing a Laser Vision System for our Tykma Minilase XL. His project aimed to prevent mislabeling by ensuring correct part placement before laser marking, significantly enhancing accuracy and reliability in our operations.
Zach’s quick adaptation to new skills in automation, electrical engineering, and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming was key to the project’s success. His mentors Matt and Samantha highlighted, “Zach’s ability to dive into challenges and engineer effective solutions was crucial to meeting our project goals.”
In addition to his primary project, Zach made notable contributions in standardizing laser fixtures and advancing our 5S initiatives, demonstrating his commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Reflecting on his internship, Zach shared, “This experience solidified my passion for engineering and taught me the value of persistence in large projects.” He advises future interns to “listen closely to the end user and think through problems independently before seeking help—you might surprise yourself with what you can achieve.”
Zach’s continued contributions underscore the innovative spirit we value at Reader Precision Solutions, and we eagerly anticipate the impact he will continue to make in his academic and professional journey.
Jeffery K. | Engineering Intern
A third-year student at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), Jeffrey is also pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. This summer, Jeffrey worked on the Laser Air Assist system, which pushed him to utilize his skills in 3D modeling and 3D printing while collaborating with peers to integrate the system into existing processes. This project not only expanded his technical abilities but also demonstrated his capacity for innovation and problem-solving.
Jeffrey’s deep knowledge of additive manufacturing, developed through both academic and professional experiences, was invaluable. His mentors noted, “Jeffrey’s innovative approach and ability to enhance our internal additive manufacturing processes made a significant impact, particularly in improving the reliability and cost-effectiveness of our operations.”
Beyond his main project, Jeffrey also contributed to 5S organization and designed a magnetic separator for the finishing department, showcasing his versatility and dedication to continuous improvement. His positive attitude and proactive approach consistently elevated the team’s efforts, leading to successful project outcomes.
Reflecting on his time at RPS, Jeffrey said, “This internship has shown me that I can turn my ideas into reality and that calculated risks are worth taking.” He advises future interns, “Don’t be afraid to suggest ideas, even small ones—they can make a big difference.”
Jeffrey’s contributions this summer exemplify the drive and innovation we strive for, and we look forward to seeing the impact he will continue to make as he progresses in his academic and professional career.
Imanol V. | Production Intern
Imanol spent his summer rotating through various departments on the production floor at RPS, gaining hands-on experience across different facets of our operations. While he explored many aspects of the manufacturing process, Imanol found his true passion in Swiss CNC machining. He was drawn to the fast pace and the challenge of maintaining parts within tight tolerances, taking pride in catching out-of-tolerance features as soon as they occurred to minimize scrap.
Although he enjoyed his time in the Quality Department, Swiss CNC machining is where Imanol truly thrived. His enthusiasm for the work is matched by his eagerness to learn more about programming the machines and modeling parts.
Imanol’s keen eye and intuitive understanding of the machining process quickly became evident as he excelled in his role. His mentor noted that Imanol brings a unique focus and precision to his work, which has been instrumental in maintaining high-quality standards.
This fall, Imanol will be attending Gateway Technical College to pursue a degree in marketing. His experience at RPS has provided him with a solid foundation in the manufacturing field, which will undoubtedly complement his future studies. We look forward to seeing how he continues to develop his skills and contribute to the industry as he progresses in his career.
The Summer Internship program at Reader Precision Solutions represent our continued commitment to offering emerging talents a comprehensive, hands-on and tailored learning experience. Their engagement across diverse operational facets allows for the nurturing of career growth within versatile professionals. Reader Precision Solutions is proud to have played a role in all of our interns’ academic and career journeys and eagerly anticipate the impact they will undoubtedly make in their professional and academic careers.
